I hate myself
After ten years of being a non-smoker, Job started smoking again, confessing – ‘How stupid of me! I hate myself!’ One of the consequences was the redesign of the everyday ashtray. In Studio Job’s typically opulent style, it appears as a chimney with a bronze bass. On top of its slender neck, itself long and tall like a cigarette, is the actual ashtray made of bronze.
This is not the first chimney by Studio Job. The 2006 Robber Baron table, which was shaped as a factory, had four chimneys for legs blowing bronze smoke. As with the factory, the red-bricked chimney evokes a traditional setting as well as the idea of looking back and romanticising the past, which had seduced Job into smoking.
Where there's smoke... Where there's smoke...
