Studio Job - Containers I

Studio Job was founded in 1998 by Job Smeets in the renaissance spirit, combining traditional and modern techniques to produce once-in-a-lifetime objects. At once highly specific and yet entirely universal, personally expressive and yet experimental, Studio Job has crafted a body of work that draws upon classical, popular and contemporary design and highly visual and sculptural art.

Containers I

Studio Job’s first full project in bronze, a material more closely associated with traditional sculpture than contemporary design. The totemic, anthropomorphic form reflects an early interest in archetypes, further enhanced by the visible hand-modeling of the surface, which gives the impression of ancient Bronze age artifact.

Studio Job distinguished itself early on with works that ran counter to existing design trends, as seen in Pot, from their five-piece Container series. The large and heavy object is sculpted in an Art Deco manner, and it alludes to utility but, in fact, bears no practical function.
