Studio Job - Fuck the Teacher

Studio Job was founded in 1998 by Job Smeets in the renaissance spirit, combining traditional and modern techniques to produce once-in-a-lifetime objects. At once highly specific and yet entirely universal, personally expressive and yet experimental, Studio Job has crafted a body of work that draws upon classical, popular and contemporary design and highly visual and sculptural art.

thumbtack

one dramatic statement

“Fuck The Teacher” is based on the school bully, who Job remembers “would put a thumbtack on the chair of the teacher right before he’d enter the classroom.”

Just as one small thumbtack makes for one dramatic statement, Studio Job’s very simple idea is exaggerated as a giant push pin. It also reveals the way in which Studio Job design, starting with the concept and using it to determine function. In this case, there were two concepts, one leading on to the other. The bronze nail on the oversized thumbtack reminded Job “of churches, where candles are stuck on iron rods.
