Studio Job - Pussy Cats

Studio Job was founded in 1998 by Job Smeets in the renaissance spirit, combining traditional and modern techniques to produce once-in-a-lifetime objects. At once highly specific and yet entirely universal, personally expressive and yet experimental, Studio Job has crafted a body of work that draws upon classical, popular and contemporary design and highly visual and sculptural art.

Pussy Cats

Studio Job idolizes the sly and ruthless nature of pussy cats, they have captured the merciless and sometimes cold-hearted nature of the typically domesticated mammals, by rendering them as sculptural lighting pieces.

Cats?

Why cats?

Job Smeet’s own cat ‘Jambe Blanche’ was a 20-year-old belle dame. “She was born in the basement of my first studio and has four white legs but that may not be a surprise, her marking are spotted like Dutch cows.

But she is female, in Dutch slang this can be pronounced as ‘poesje’. Which is also the equivalent for ‘vagina’.

They have a point? Bien-sur que non!”

– Job Smeets, 2014
